We here at Team Hyundai are dedicated to providing our fellow drivers near Lexington Park, St. Mary's County, and Mechanicsville with the information they need to pick out the vehicle that fits in the best with their particular lifestyles and sensibilities.
This time around, we're going to take a look at the Hyundai Kona and the Nissan Kicks. If you're on the hunt for a fully equipped SUV with plenty to offer, both of these are bound to be near the top of your list. This comparison puts them side by side, so you can see which one is the better choice. Read on to find out.
Hyundai Kona vs Nissan Kicks: The Engine Comparison
While both of these SUVs are propelled by engines that are certainly able to get the job done, the Kona manages to go the extra mile. Its lineup consists of a total of two engines. The standard offering is a 2.0-liter engine that makes use of four cylinders. It produces a full-bodied output of 147 horsepower along with 132 lb-ft of torque. The available 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is turbocharged and delivers a commanding 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
The Kicks is not quite as impressive once you take a look underneath its hood. Its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is the only choice you have. It falls short of both options in the Kona in terms of output by only being able to generate a maximum of 122 horsepower with 114 lb-ft of torque.
Cabin Space
Roominess throughout the interior is another category in which the Hyundai Kona is able to pull ahead of the Nissan Kicks. The Kona features 94.1 cubic feet for its passenger volume, and its maximum cargo volume is 45.8 cubic feet. In the front seats, the Kona gives you 55.5 inches of shoulder room and 53.3 inches of hip room. The back row is just as spacious. It has 54.5 inches of shoulder room, 52.2 inches of hip room, and 34.6 inches of legroom.
The Kicks is simply not as accommodating inside the cabin. Its interior passenger volume is 93.9 inches, and the cargo volume, with the rear seatbacks folded down, only comes to 32.3 cubic feet. Its front seats only give you 53 inches of shoulder room and 50.9 inches of hip room. The back seats continue to fall short by only offering 53.2 inches of shoulder room, 49.1 inches of hip room, and 33.2 inches of legroom.
When it comes to allowing its passengers to sit back and comfortably enjoy the ride, the Kona has the upper hand.
Spotlight on Convenience
Convenience is definitely another category that's worth mentioning when comparing the Hyundai Kona vs. the Nissan Kicks. The Kona stands out again. In this case, it does so by providing you with easy access to the infotainment system via an available eight-inch color touchscreen display. The available touchscreen display over in the Kicks is a bit smaller at seven inches.
Another convenient aspect of the Hyundai Kona is the available auto-dimming rearview mirror that prevents you from being distracted by reflected headlights whenever vehicles pull up behind you. This is not something you'll find in the Kicks. Â
